Episode 21: Teresa

"TERESA"

The Saint visits Mexico and plunges into an adventurous journey to help a
proud and beautiful girl to solve the mystery of her husband's
disappearance.

Time and love have pressed (sic) the trigger for Teresa Alvarez (LANA
MORRIS). When Simon Templar, the Saint (ROGER MOORE), meets her for the
first time, two years have elapsed since her trapeze star husband, Gaspar,
disappeared after the failure of an attempt to assassinate the President.
Now he is believed to be dead. The police have failed to find him.

But Teresa must know the truth. Her husband's close friend Miguel (ALEXANDER
DAVION), she thinks, may be able to help. She goes to him at the circus
where he is performing - and her visit costs him his life. He is murdered,
but before he dies he tells her that he hid Gaspar on a lorry going to San
Pedro.

The Saint, who has known Miguel for years, immediately takes a personal
interest in what is happening and accompanies Teresa on her journey to San
Pedro, driving her over the desert roads - quite unaware that the police are
keeping an eye on them and that a man named Borota (MARNE MAITLAND), who
killed Miguel, is following.

They reach San Pedro, and the Saint is promptly arrested by the police. He
is suspected of murdering Miguel, but is soon released. In the meanwhile,
however, Teresa is approached by a mysterious stranger who introduces
himself as Casemegas (ERIC POHLMANN), and also receives a message which
tells her that the writer can lead her to her husband. It names a meeting
place. Teresa goes off on her own and narrowly escapes being Borota's next
victim. The Saint saves her.

They discover that Miguel's mother, Senora Artigas (MARIE BURKE), lives in
the village, and she tells them that she hid Teresa's husband, Gaspar. He
was a broken man, crying and punishing himself. This information takes them
to the next step in their journey - to La Quinta. But before they reach
there, their car crashes along the mountain road. The brakes have been
tampered with. They escape with their lives, but are stranded - until the
mysterious Casemegas arrives in a car and takes them on to La Quinta, where
they are warned to be careful of the bandits who live in the mountains.
Their uncrowned king is El Rojo (LAWRENCE DANE). All are fugitives from
justice.

Is Gaspar among them? The truth about El Rojo himself; about Casemegas and
Borota; and about Teresa's husband is revealed when the Saint and Teresa
meet the bandit king in his hide-out....
