Episode 1: The Talented Husband

"THE TALENTED HUSBAND"

The Saint finds himself with a glamorous partner when circumstances lead him
into protecting a lovely woman from her wife-killing husband.

Simon Templar (ROGER MOORE), the Saint, runs into Madge Clarron (PATRICIA
ROC) at the first night of a play presented by her ex-actor husband, John
Clarron (DEREK FARR), little suspecting the drama that will follow.

The play is a flop. Back at their home on the Thames, Clarron moodily
refuses to be cheered up. As Madge sits on the terrace, he goes upstairs to
fetch her a pull-over, leans over the balcony, and brushes against a heavy
cement flower urn, which crashes down on his wife. Madge is badly injured
and confined to bed. Clarron refuses to have a nurse, but tells the doctor
he is engaging a housekeeper named Mrs. Jafferty.

Adrienne Halbert (SHIRLY EATON), staying at a neighbouring cottage, offers
to help, but Clarron explains that his wife is shy with strangers.

The Saint arrives in the district for a month's "holiday", and as Adrienne
is the most glamorous girl thereabouts, it's not long before he gets to know
her. They find they have mutual interest, and one in particular is Clarron.
The Saint is interested because of Madge's accident, and he recalls that
Clarron has been married twice before and both wives have died in somewhat
mysterious circumstances, each leaving him money. And Adrienne is an
insurance investigator, suspicious because Clarron only recently insured his
wife for £70,000.

One thing puzzles them. As the Saint points out: "Until now, John has always
worked alone. If he's really planning to kill Madge..... why does he clutter
up the operation with Mrs. Jafferty?"

The appearance of Mrs. Jafferty, in fact, is very mysterious indeed. The
Saint makes use of her by telling her that he was once engaged to Madge
Clarron's sister, knowing full well that Madge never had a sister.

The Saint and Adrienne work together and the case becomes increasingly
involved. They hatch a plot which saves Madge from being poisoned - by
Clarron or Mrs. Jafferty? And their own plot unveils the truth about one of
the most ingenious murder plans ever devised.
